The Year Ahead for WDV Athletics
The 2024-25 Wiseburn Da Vinci Athletics program is gearing up for another great year! The majority of our teams will continue to participate in the highly competitive Pioneer League, facing off against high schools from Torrance, El Segundo and Lawndale. After two outstanding seasons, the Boys Basketball, Cross Country and Track and Field programs have been elevated to the top-ranked Bay League competing with Mira Costa, Redondo, Peninsula, and Palos Verdes.
We’re also thrilled to welcome Jasiri Daire and Dana Frelow to our Cross Country program. Coach Jasiri is coming on board as the new Junior Varsity coach and Coach Dana as an Assistant Coach to the Varsity team. They will be bringing fresh energy and expertise to our team.
Our WDV Athletics program is designed to inspire and empower students, parents, and support staff to achieve excellence.
“With the upcoming sports season upon us, I couldn’t be more excited to see our student-athletes back in action. Over the last couple of years, our program has grown exponentially, and we’ve become more competitive in every sport. The dedication students have shown in training and competition is impressive, but what makes me most proud is the way they carry themselves off the field,” said Nick “AD” Davidson, WDV Athletics Director. “Watching them grow not just as competitors, but as admirable young adults, is what truly makes this job special. Students’ character, leadership, and commitment to their teams and community are inspiring, and I can’t wait to see what they accomplish this season—both in their sports and in life.”
Maleah Faust, Varsity Girls Volleyball team captain, is enthusiastic about the coming season. “I’m most excited to play hard teams in this upcoming season. I feel like it is going to be a challenge but it’s nothing we can’t overcome,” says Maleah. “I think this season will be a season of growth and a fresh start which is something I believe is necessary when it comes to success.”
Student-athletes are encouraged to immerse themselves in their sports experience, participating in all practices, games, and meetings, while excelling academically. They are guided to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, embody respect, integrity, and fairness, and to prioritize teamwork, celebrating collective success. Their well-being, both physical and mental, is supported through thoughtful training and open communication about any health needs.
Parents play a vital role in this journey, providing uplifting encouragement, recognizing their child’s effort and growth, and addressing any concerns with coaches in a constructive and respectful manner. Trust in the process is key, with the understanding that roles and playing time are earned through hard work and commitment.
Support staff, especially coaches, are dedicated to nurturing each student’s athletic and personal development. They focus on teaching not only technical skills but also valuable life lessons, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment where every athlete feels valued. Clear and consistent communication with both athletes and parents is a cornerstone of their approach.
This well-rounded framework is crafted to foster a positive and supportive sports environment, empowering student-athletes to thrive both on the field and in life.
