Spring Sports Headlines & Highlights

As March unfolded, our spring sports teams were in the heart of the hunt, pushing toward the postseason with the strength and spirit of a wolf pack! With the regular season cruising past its mid-point, our Boys Volleyball, Girls Beach Volleyball, Swim, Softball, Baseball, Archery, Track and Field and ESports teams have battled fiercely, showcasing resilience, teamwork, and school pride. The rain may have affected some games but not the spirits of our student-athletes! The pack is strong, and the postseason is in sight—let’s finish the season strong! 

Boys Volleyball

Team Update: The Wiseburn Da Vinci Wolves Varsity Boys Volleyball team prowled through a tough March, facing fierce competition but never backing down from a fight.

The pack started the month strong, sinking their teeth into a 2-0 victory against Venice High School on March 8, snapping Venice’s impressive eight-match winning streak. Dylan Soriano led the hunt with nine digs, two aces, and a block, while Matt Divinagracia stepped up with a career-high seven digs and three assists.

The Wolves faced a tough challenge against Palos Verdes on March 19, defeating Palos Verdes 3-2 after dropping the first two sets. Matt Divinagracia (nine digs, two aces) and Sai Santiago (13 kills, eight digs, five blocks) led the charge, with the team racking up a season-high ten aces. The Wolves' league record sits at 2-2, solidly in second place in the Pioneer League. Proving the Wolves’ bite is just as strong as their bark.

With a third place standing in the Pioneer League to round out March, the Wolves remain in the hunt, sharpening their claws for the battles ahead. As the season nears its peak, this pack is hungry for more victories.

Softball

Team Update:  The Wiseburn Da Vinci Wolves Varsity Softball team holds an overall record of 6-2 for the 2024-25 season. The Wolves began their season with a strong performance, securing four consecutive victories before experiencing their first loss.​ On March 20, 2025, the Wiseburn-Da Vinci Wolves softball team edged out the King/Drew Golden Eagles in a close 5-4 victory. Pitchers Addison Wilson and Gabriella Silva were instrumental, with Wilson allowing no earned runs or hits over two innings, and Silva striking out six over four hitless innings. Offensively, Wilson hit her first home run of the season, while Silva went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Jasmine Veal also shined, going 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. The Wolves posted a batting average of .419, significantly outperforming King/Drew's .182. This win improved Wiseburn-Da Vinci's record to 6-2.

Baseball

Team Update: The Wiseburn Da Vinci Wolves have been on the prowl, dominating the diamond having won 6 of their last seven games the boys in blue now have a 9-4 record as the move into the last half of their spring season. With a fierce hunger for success, the Pack has been unstoppable, proving their strength and determination in every game.

    • Game Recap: The Hunt for Victory
      •  March 1 – In a rematch, Wiseburn Da Vinci outmatched Carson once again, claiming a 12-7 win and asserting their dominance.
      •  March 6 – WDV took the “W” 7-4 in a local showdown versus Lawndale High School
      •  March 8 – In a hard-fought battle, the Wolves edged out North High School 5-4, proving their resilience and ability to grind out tough wins.
      •  March 17 - The Wolves went 11 innings for the 3-2 win @ Venice
      •  March 19 - WDV fell in a tough battle with South, but are ready for the re-match
      •  March 21 - Bouncing back from a loss the Wolves took it to Glenn with a HUGE 15-6 victory!
      •  March 26 - In their second match up against North, the Wolves couldn’t pull out the win like they did on March 8.

      •  Deklen Emmersen – Leads the team in triples and ERA
      •  Payton Tate – Leads the team in stolen bases, runs and fielding percentage
      •  Xavier Horton – Leads the team in hits and doubles
      •  James Mara - Leads the team in .500 batting average, slugging percentage (.864) and on base percentage (.593)
      •  Lonnie Jackson - Leads the teams in home run and RBIs

Archery

Highlights from LA Regional League Games March 1:

    • WDV Archery had an outstanding performance at the LA Regional League Games on Saturday, March 1st, competing against Beaumont High School and Yucaipa High School. Our Wolves demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship; leading them to victory over both Beaumont and Yucaipa!

            • Singles Matches: Won 6 out of 8

            • Team Matches: Won 4 out of 5
            • Singles Matches: Won 11 out of 12

Highlights from LA Regional Championships March 22:

    • The tournament featured a 12-round ranking competition, followed by intense seeded Singles and Team matches. It was a long and demanding day, but our Wolves demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship and perseverance. They supported one another with unwavering encouragement—even when competing head-to-head with their own teammates.

We are incredibly proud of the many students who achieved their personal records during the event. A standout moment was Jack Trolia’s incredible determination—after a flat tire on the freeway, he got a ride then proceeded to run up a hill and jumped straight into competition, showing true grit and dedication.

Our archers continue to represent WDV with skill, heart, and unity.

Track and Field

Highlights from Culver City Invitational:

The Da Vinci Wolves stormed the track at the Culver City Invitational, leaving their mark with blistering speed, endurance, and determination. With every race, jump, and baton exchange.

    • Olivia Griffin – Queen of the Hurdles: No hurdle was too high as Olivia Griffin dominated the 100m and 300m hurdles, securing 1st place in both events.

Highlights from Redondo Nike Track Festival:

The Wolfpack unleashed its fury at the Redondo Nike Track Festival, leaving behind shattered records, podium finishes, and a field full of competitors. With three new school records, multiple top finishes, and champions crowned, the pack feasted once again drawing blood from the competition.

The Wolfpack snuck into West Covina for The Qualifier Meet, leading the pack with domination, shattered records, and top performances. Proving that the Wiseburn Da Vinci Wolves run with strength, speed, and a hunger for the win.

The Wolfpack invaded Oaks Christian High School for the Maurice Greene Invitational, leaving behind a trail of broken records, and dominant performances.

Swim

Highlights from South Bay Invitational:

These Wolves can swim! SEVEN school records were broken in the first meet of the season at Mira Costa on March 5 and 7.

  • Tanaz Engineer for the 200IM and the 100 Fly
  • Rayan Engineer for the 200 IM and 100 Free (Got 3rd place!)
  • Tri Tran for the 100 Fly (Got FIRST place!)
  • Rayan, Tri, Zirak and Alex for both the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay (Got 3rd place!)
  • Highlights from the season: The boys and girls swim team were victorious in their meets against North and Torrance.

Girls Beach Volleyball

Season Update: The Girls Beach Volleyball program is bigger than any prior year! The Varsity and JV teams have been working hard to prepare for competition this spring season. The rain wreaked some havoc on the start of the season but league play is officially underway. Your WDV Wolves had a nail-biter of a win on March 20 over South High in a home match hosted at Dockweiler Youth Center Courts.

Esports

  • Team Updates and Highlights from Rocket League: The WDV Esports team plays year-round in CIF sanctioned events. Throughout the year they have competed with determination and focus with excellent results. The Da Vinci Rocket Wolves (Rocket League) are currently competing at the CIF Esports Initiative x NASEL - Rocket League Varsity Championship, seeded at 11 out of 64 teams! Round two of the championships will happen on April 2nd at 4:15pm!    
  • Team Updates and Highlights from Super Smash Brothers: The WDV Smash Wolves have been in the hunt right alongside their Rocket League teammates! They have also clawed their way into the CIF ESports Initiative x NASEF - SSBU Varsity Gold Championship, seeded at 26 out of 64 teams! They head into round 2 on April 2nd versus the CV Falcon Smash 1 team from Cresenta Valley High School. Good luck to our ESports Wolves
  • Upcoming events: 
    • CIF Esports Championship Finals - in person! Saturday, April 26 at CSU
  • Dominguez Hills        
  • The EGFH National Championships: The WDV Esports program has 5 teams invited to participate in the EGFH National Championships, competing in Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, OverWatch 2, Valorant and Chess. They will compete in San Antonio in May! Visit their bake sale on Tuesdays in the Atrium to help fund their trip!      

CIF-SS Athlete of the Year Announcements



CIF-SS Athlete of the Year nominees are nominated by their coaches and are required to have maintained a 3.5 GPA across their sophomore, junior and first semester of their senior year. As well as having lettered in at least one varsity sport and participated in one or more of the CIF-SS approved extracurricular sports or activities.  Congratulations to Kendra and Mattius!
