For more than 25 years, Toby Harwell has been a contributor to the vibrant Los Angeles music scene as a multi-instrumentalist, performer, recording artist, and K-12 music educator.
As an educator, Toby has devoted himself to designing and executing a 21st century music program that meets the needs of all students. He currently serves as leader of the Wiseburn-Da Vinci Studio Orchestra and director of the Strings Program at Wiseburn Middle School.
As a performer and recording artist, Toby has worked with national artists such as Motown veteran Michael Schumann, the legendary Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO, Will Smith, Nelly, and several local acts including Badaue, Katia Moraes, Jahgun among others.
Toby holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach and a Master’s degree in Commercial Music from Cal State Los Angeles. In 2013, he was honored as “Teacher of the Year” for his innovative curriculum integrating standards-based instrument pedagogy with contemporary repertoire and the latest music technology.
