A Round of Applause for the Voices of Da Vinci Choir

Change can be exciting, scary, hard, and necessary for growth and progress.

These ideas and more were examined through a variety of poems, original songs, classics, and a cappella songs at EVOLUTION, the high school Spring Concert held on May 14. Making its debut as the Voices of Da Vinci Choir, the 28 voice ensemble and live band performed 16 pieces all centered around the theme of change. The choir is open to all high school students from Da Vinci Communications, Connect, Design, RISE and Science.

There were many standout performances for the ensemble and for soloist/featured performers. Some of the many memorable performances included, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” with Kira Marks; “Rie y Llora” with Brooklyn Tinsley; “I Don’t Like Change” with Aminah Pope; “Change the World” with Landon McGraw and Allegra Diaz; and “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” with A’dour Jordan. Several Da Vinci staff members made a special guest appearance singing “What’s Going On?” by Marvin Gaye.

Performing since the age of five, Aminah, an 11th grader at Da Vinci Communications, sang her original song (“I Don’t Like Change”) playing along with a guitar. She shared,” I’m not going to lie. It felt terrifying to perform on stage. I’ve been working on the song for a few months. It was my first time performing my song.” Aminah received a standing ovation following her performance. After the concert, Aminah talked about how the choir has been a great place to make new friends. “I love this choir. It feels like home. It’s really comforting. I love these people – they are so sweet.”

Aminah’s mother, Lynetta Pope shared, “I’m glad to see the expansion of the performing arts program. I’ve been a Da Vinci mom since my oldest was in high school, and he’s 20 now. It’s fun seeing my daughter join the choir. I love seeing the evolution of the program.”

Under the direction of WDV Performing Arts Coordinator Alexi Paraschos, the Voices of Da Vinci Choir ensemble got everyone up out of their seats and dancing. We wish to extend a big thank you to all the families and friends who came out to support our talented students.

“We chose the theme of change because of where students are in this period of their lives,” Alexi shared. “Also, change represents where we are as a growing Wiseburn Da Vinci Performing Arts program. We really appreciate everyone coming out and celebrating the theme of change together,” he continued.
