Chevron Donates $65,000 to Da Vinci Schools for STEM Education
Chevron presented Da Vinci Schools with a check for $65,000 to advance STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. The grant will be used to fund world-class Project Lead The Way (PLTW) engineering curricula, professional development for STEM teachers, and classroom equipment, materials, and technology. Lily Craig, Chevron's External Affairs Manager, presented the check at the Da Vinci Schools Board Meeting on May 25.
"We are deeply grateful to count Chevron as one of Da Vinci Schools' champion partners of innovative, hands-on learning in STEM education," said Matthew Wunder, Da Vinci's CEO. "Chevron is a vital community partner and friend committed to empowering students to acquire the 21st century skills needed for college and career success."
Ms. Craig and Chevron have been instrumental partners in helping to provide rigorous and relevant STEM learning opportunities in which Da Vinci students learn real skills, solve real problems, and make real discoveries about the world. We gratefully acknowledge Chevron and the invaluable assistance of Ms. Craig for supporting Da Vinci Schools since our inception, and for leading the way in connecting the education to employment pipeline and driving the future growth of California.
A "National Partner" of PLTW, Chevron is funding programs locally and across the nation to improve STEM education and address the shortage of STEM talent in the workforce. According to the U.S. Labor Department, there are more than 5.8 million unfilled jobs across the country, of which close to 2.4 million are unfilled STEM jobs.
